The former District B Councilmember can't understand the fuss.
In a nonplussed response to the federal grand jury indictment handed down that accuses her of federal racketeering, former State Representative and District B Councilmember Renee Gill Pratt questioned the function of nonprofit entities such as the ones from which she is accused of skimming.
“What is a nonprofit other than a dubious venture that you cook up to suck federal grant money?” Gill Pratt asked rhetorically. “If you don’t grab a piece of the largesse, why bother?”
In addition to countering the notion that what she did was criminal, Gill Pratt also claimed that she was being unfairly targeted.
“Shit, look at Gambit’s 40 Under 40 for this year,” Gill Pratt said. “How many of those people are in the nonprofit hustle, getting praised like they’re the saviors of the city? [Editors note: 9 out of 40] You think they’re not stashing cash in the freezer for when the grant money dries up? And I’m getting shoved into prison? Talk about hating the player.”
