MISSION STATEMENT

non v’accorgete voi che noi siam vermin

NOLAFugees  is a site devoted to the city of New Orleans as it currently functions: as a purgatory for those whose futures are wildly uncertain. We offer neither elegiac laments for the past nor bold visions of the future. We’ll leave the “historic opportunity” for other outlets.

We’re not anxious to “preserve the spirit of the city;” neither do we hold dear the dream of a “newer, better”  New Orleans, desperate to forget how fucked up we were. Rather, we choose to ride along the flood line, floating on an air mattress, checking things out, refugees in our own zip code. 

NOLAFugees makes no distinctions between fact and fiction. This is less a studied aesthetic stance than it is a reflection of our lack of faith in either. All factual or fictional contributions are welcome, as are your letters.  NOLAFugees is here to serve you.
