WHO WE ARE
NOLAFugees.com began publication in November of 2005 as way to document life in New Orleans in the immediate aftermath of post-Katrina, ranging from the surreal to the peculiar to the gravely serious.

In November of 2005, NOLAFugees.com ran a story spoofing Mayor Ray Nagin’s vision of a “Chocolate City.” Nagin had used the phrase when testifying before Congress. Because of our prescience, we were able to generate site visits from 20,000 unique visitors in the month of January 2006 when Mayor Nagin uttered the same remarks during his Martin Luther King day speech.

Since then, NOLAFugees.com has worked to maintain that level of site traffic, and in the process we have expanded our pool of talented writers and the range of topics we cover around the city, as well as to points beyond. Our content includes political and social commentary, coverage of local music and culture, iconoclastic first-person essays, and, as always sharp and controversial satire that “blurs the lines” between fact and fiction in New Orleans.
WHY YOU SHOULD ADVERTISE WITH AN INTERNET-ONLY PUBLICATION
We have made a conscious decision in this market to publish on the internet for three reasons:
  • During the confusion in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, residents of the city relied on the Internet like never before. We believe that this tragedy will only hasten the trend away from print sources as a primary source of information.

  • We want to establish frequent and direct communication with our readers. Rather than publish a monthly magazine that sits in stacks in restaurants and coffee shops, the flexibility of online publishing allows us to be more timely with our content and ensures that each update lands directly on the desktops of our readers.

  • As business owners in post-Katrina New Orleans, we understand that it is more important than ever to keep overhead low. By eliminating printing costs and keeping publication costs at a minimum, we are able to offer very competitive rates. The result is that local small businesses have the opportunity to regularly advertise and promote their services.
WHO OUR READERS ARE
Regular readers of NOLAFugees.com comprise a young, literate, educated audience who also know how to enjoy themselves, a demographic attractive to any advertiser. More importantly, they are the people who are interested in seeing New Orleans prosper.

Dscn1168As an on-line entity, NOLAFugees is able to deliver ads specifically targeted to our content, as well as to our readers' interests.
