R. Kelly Criticizes Assailant of Man Trapped In Closet

Check your closet, but hold off on firing until the last act.
When Gegory S. Becknel opened the bedroom closet of his Soniat Street home and found Marvin D. Bell hiding within, anger drove Becknel to fire his .40 caliber semi-automatic into Bell’s body, fatally wounding him.

Wrong move, says urban closet drama expert and Grammy award-winning musician R. Kelly.

“You got to hook the audience with a cliffhanger,” R. Kelly said during a phone interview from his Chicago studio. “You start blasting away in the first chapter, how you gonna get the rest of your tracks any airplay?”

R. Kelly said the premature firing of the gun denied the audience any chance to delve deeper into the drama, such as exploring the notion that while Becknel’s wife was obviously being unfaithful, perhaps Becknel himself has someone in his metaphorical closet as well.

“And then maybe you find out Becknel’s side piece also has something on the side,” Kelly continued. “And the story gets deeper, and then before you know it, you got a twelve track CD with a DVD extra bonus feature.

“Maybe that’s your problem down there,” Kelly added. “You all can’t see the big picture.”
